Crete has amazing places to visit during the summer season. Everyone knows ”what means Crete” from May to September. You know, people who live here can see the island from a different point of view. In winter the high peaks of the Cretan mountains are covered by snow. It is a very unusual phenomenon for the Cretans. Almost everyone live and work by the sea. Usually it snows from 600-700 high and up during the winter. Some famous villages like Omalos in Chania or Anogia in Rethimnon are every winter covered by snow!! This year, more than last, Crete is in white!! There is snow in many villages around the Cretan mainland.

Now, in holidays, many families with their little children drive to some high villages to see the snow and play. We also make snowmen and enjoy to lay and create angels in the snow with our own body. Friends prepare their cars, dress warm and drive to find snow!!
Only in 2004, 14 years before, we had snow also in the town. Imagine the famous sights like the lighthouse of Chania or Koule fortress in Heraklion in white.

It is very important for us when it’s snowing to the mountains or when it rains because it keeps the water sources of the mountains alive…
