Description

You will start the tour from Chania city center around 10:00 in the morning, heading to a magnificent and historical hill where you can admire the panoramic view of the town. The wine roads of Chania are leading you to an extraordinary monastery, in the foothills of an old mountain range, built in 17th century by two monks from the ancient traditional Cretan family. The architecture of the building is inspired by famous Veronese architect Sebastiano Serlio. It was burned by the Turks in 1821 and restored in 1892.

The monastery has a great history and huge tradition in winemaking and olive oil production. The monks produce Cretan and international varieties of wine like “Romeiko”, “Muscat of Alexandria”, “Trebianno”, “Cabernet” etc. Taste the extra virgin olive oil on traditional Cretan rusk with own-made cheese and fresh tomato accompanied with the best Cretan wine varieties. Also inside the monastery there are two museums with magnificent treasures. One will show you the history of the monastery and the other one will present you the Cretan way of life and the wine-making in the past.

After leaving the monastery with a unique taste on your palate you will visit the beach of “Stavros” where Antony Quinn danced in Zorbas the Greek movie.

As you can expect some landmarks take more time to get to on coach tours and some are more time-consuming than others. With this in mind, we have no set time for the exploration of each attraction. Our tour guides are trained to watch how their group progresses at each landmark and they adjust each tour accordingly. You should keep in mind that some tours cover three landmarks over a single day, so there are a limited number of hours in which to do a lot of sightseeing. Consequently, you may not have an extensive amount of time to spend at each attraction.

You could lose your seat to a walk-up passenger. We encourage you to arrive at the pickup point a minimum of 15 minutes before departure. Once on the tour, your guide or driver will give you a time that the coach will depart each location. You must be at the coach at least five minutes before this time. If you are late and miss the time given, the coach will depart without you in order to not keep the other passengers waiting. If you are in any doubt about a departure time whilst on your tour, you must ask the guide or driver.

Any items we find on our coaches are taken to our office at Episkopou Chrysanthou 37 str. Chania old town and are kept there for 72 hours before being destroyed or given to charity. Please call our office on +30 28210 43243 for any lost items.

5 days before the tour starts –> 50% refund, no refunds after that

35% Deposit on booking time and final payment 7 days before the tour date.

Dimitri was our wonderful driver and guide. He was very knowledgable about the sights we were seeing and about the history of Crete. We went to a beautiful monastery, saw their wine making equipment, tasted their wines, saw ancient ruins and vast panoramic vistas. We had a lovey time, and do hope to return!

Dimitrios from GS Tours was exceptional! Dimitrois greeted us as soon as we got off the cruise ship and was very friendly. It was a 7 hour tour and from start to finish we felt like we were VIP's and family. He told us so much about the things we were seeing and when just driving to our next destination, he would talk to you about the country and interesting things you might want to know. He welcomed questions and we learned so much. We travel alot and have experienced tour guides that are NOT good and never talk except when they absolutely have to and you never learn anything about the country or place you are visiting. We visited the most beautiful monastery where they make their own organic wine and extra virgin olive oil. We visited on a Sunday so we were very fortunate to actually witness the service taking place. We received a wine tour and how they make their olive oil. The grounds were so beautiful and for miles all you can see are their own olive trees. Afterwards we were taken to a actual room that dates back to 5th century where we were able to sit down and try 4 different wines and their different varieties of extra virgin olive oil along with their homemade bread. I never tasted olive oil so incredible in my whole life. I could have eaten a whole loaf of bread with that olive oil. They also have a store there, so you can purchase it and it is VERY reasonable around 4.00 for a bottle that would cost over 25 back home in Alabama. He then took us to a famous cemetery with a lot of history, to the center of town and visited the lighthouse and even let us stop at a local restaurant for a authentic gyro which we wanted to try since we were in Greece. We went on the most beautiful drive to the top of the mountain to another famous winery and they also make extra virgin olive oil that they sell all over the world. They sell out every year since it is in such tremendous demand! We were given 4 wine samples to try along with snacks that were freshly made for us. We were also able to have the different varieties of extra virgin olive oil they make. He took us to so many places along the way that he thought we would like to see also. We take 3 cruises a year and average over 15 excursions on them all. We had experienced a lot and this is a MUST DO AND SEE!! I have never been so pleased and enjoyed such an amazing day and it was all due to our tour guide Dimitrois. We arrived back to the ship exactly when we were supposed to. When and if we visit this port again, I will definitely take this tour again and look so forward to doing so. Dimitrois is standing in the picture pointing out a special variety of olive tree. I never knew there were different kinds. I feel I made a friend for life and am a better person for experiencing the kindness shown to me and my husband on this amazing tour!!
