Description

Today you will travel through wonderful nature’s landscapes. Up to the mountains of the Northwest province of Chania, you will visit traditional family wineries and an olive mill.

The tour starts from the olive mill. A local family business that traditionally extracts the olive oil. The heavy stone mills are crushing the olives, and through the press, and produce the extra virgin olive oil. There are always analytic descriptions and tours of the facilities but live extraction processes during the harvesting months (Autumn). Olive oil tasting is following, and an incredible taste will fill your palate.  After that, you will have the chance to admire the oldest olive tree globally, which age is estimated at 3000 years old and the olive museum. The miracle of nature stands proud in front of you, and its deep roots are holding it through the centuries.

The day continues with wine. You will taste different expressions of Cretan and international varieties paired with delicious local dishes. Visit first, a local family winery in a beautiful environment, surrounded by olive trees and citrus fruits. Wine specialists will analyze the harvesting process and the wine-making traditions through the tour around the place. Tasting is following and experiences of different local varieties. The second winery we are visiting was established in 1993. Wine-makers with specialized knowledge and fresh ideas of modern processes of farming and wine production will introduce you to different labels of wines. Traditional Cretan light lunch in the winery paired with wine will make you fall in love with this special place. Diving deep into nature’s miracle, tasting awarded wine labels and experience the local Terroir will offer you unforgettable experiences and beautiful memories from your trip.

As you can expect some landmarks take more time to get to on coach tours and some are more time-consuming than others. With this in mind, we have no set time for the exploration of each attraction. Our tour guides are trained to watch how their group progresses at each landmark and they adjust each tour accordingly. You should keep in mind that some tours cover three landmarks over a single day, so there are a limited number of hours in which to do a lot of sightseeing. Consequently, you may not have an extensive amount of time to spend at each attraction.

You could lose your seat to a walk-up passenger. We encourage you to arrive at the pickup point a minimum of 15 minutes before departure. Once on the tour, your guide or driver will give you a time that the coach will depart each location. You must be at the coach at least five minutes before this time. If you are late and miss the time given, the coach will depart without you in order to not keep the other passengers waiting. If you are in any doubt about a departure time whilst on your tour, you must ask the guide or driver.

Any items we find on our coaches are taken to our office at Episkopou Chrysanthou 37 str. Chania old town and are kept there for 72 hours before being destroyed or given to charity. Please call our office on +30 28210 43243 for any lost items.

5 days before the tour starts –> 50% refund, no refunds after that

I thought the wine tour we went on was great. The history of Crete was well described by the driver. It's clear that him and his dad love showing off their beautiful island and truly like to entertain guests. The only thing I would improve, is the wine tasting itself. The wines were all beautiful, but I would have liked a little more walk through while doing the tasting. For example, pour the wine for all and then prompt the group for smells and then tastes, etc... That way everyone is on the same tasting step at the same time. I understand it may be hard for larger groups, but I wanted to give the feedback. Again, we really enjoyed the tour, but we have done the above with other tours and it helped the group bond and added to the tasting experience overall.

We had an amazing day with Dmitris in Crete. Dmitris seems to know everyone in town. Everyone greets him warmly. He picked us up at our villa, and we began with a walking tour of Old Chania town, where we learned history, viewed the beautiful town and port, and, happy to customize the tour to our interests, took us to visit the tiny synagogue. Then we drove a scenic road to a small village and visited an olive oil mill and winery, where we had delicious wine tastings with snacks. Dmitris' son Yannis, also an excellent guide, was leading another group, and we all went out for a meal together at a beautiful restaurant with incredible views. GS Tours has many options, and will accommodate your requests. We loved the day, and felt that we made true friends with Dmitris and Yannis. We all highly recommend them.

Our guide was delightful and escorted us to EXACTLY the kind of places and scenes we desired. It really gave us insight into how the locals live, worship, and relax. Plus the trikkes were fun. I would highly recommend this to families. Informative and most reasonably priced.
